Enhanced Oil Recovery Using CO2 in Alaska

نویسندگان

چکیده

Alaska holds more than 68 billion barrels of proved oil reserves and 36.7 trillion cubic feet natural gas with some special conditions such as proximity to permafrost, making Alaskan petroleum unique. The low temperature in shallow reservoirs prohibited hydrocarbons’ ideal maturation, thereby generating several heavy viscous accumulations this state. This also limits the enhanced recovery (EOR) options, leaving thermal methods off table avoid permafrost thawing, which can cause wellbore collapse. Several solutions have been attempted for improving production from Alaska; however, they not yielded desired recovery, ultimate factors are still less global average. One solution identified a better alternative is using CO2 an injecting fluid, alternated by water or mixed other injectants. paper provides comprehensive overview all studies on purposes highlights common unique challenges approach may face. suitability CO2-EOR pools examined, ranking publicly available data provided.

Microbial Enhanced Oil Recovery Using Biosurfactant Produced by Alcaligenes faecalis

A bacterial strain (designated as Alcaligenes sp. MS-103) isolated from oil sample of the Aghajari oilfield in the south of Iran, was able to produce an effective extracellular lipopolysaccharide biosurfactant (1.2±0.05 g/l) on molasses as a sole carbon source. The highest surface tension reduction to level 20 mN/m was achieved by biosurfactant produced by cells grown on molasses under optimum ...

An Experimental Study of Surfactant Alternating CO2 Injection for Enhanced Oil Recovery of Carbonated Reservoir

Core flooding experiments were conducted with the objective of evaluating near miscible surfactant alternating CO2 injection and the effect of surfactant concentrations on gas-oil and water displacements in porous media. The core samples were provided from a low permeability mixed wet oil reservoir at 156 °F and 1900 psia. In addition, very few studies of surfactant adsorption on car...

Risk assessment for future CO2 Sequestration Projects Based CO2 Enhanced Oil Recovery in the U.S

This paper is the first of a series that attempts to assess the possible health and safety risks associated with large scale CO2 sequestration in deep brine reservoirs. The approach is based on analysis of available data on the operational track record from CO2 transportation and injection associated with enhanced oil recovery (CO2-EOR) in the US. This paper is particularly concerned with ident...

Increasing CO2 Storage in Oil Recovery

Carbon dioxide (CO2) injection has been used as a commercial process for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) since the 1970’s. Because the cost of oil recovered is closely linked to the purchase cost of the CO2 injected, considerable reservoir engineering design effort has gone into reducing the total amount of CO2 required to recover each barrel of oil. If, on the other hand, the objective of the CO2 ...
